    Default 555R's in the rain?

I've read many posts on other forums about 555R's in the rain. Some say do it, others say don't. What do you guys think? I think as long as I'm careful it would be ok, but I wanted to hear the opinions of the people here that used them in the rain. Just sucks that they cost so much for the size I want...285-40-18.

    Thanks in advance!

Drive with caution. New not much an issue. Once the thread depth gets low it will easily skate around on you in rain.

Be careful of hydroplaning at highway speeds. Otherwise they aren't terrible, the 555R is kind of a compromise between a regular summer tire and drag radial.

I DD'd with 555R's for a few years and it wasn't suicide-level dangerous but there were definitely some sketchy moments. Now that I have another DD, if there's rain in the forecast I'm not driving my blown mustang on DR's in it.

Lots of variables to that question. Tread depth will have in impact but the most impact is how hard it’s raining and pooling of water on the street. I have driven on wet roads with 555r’s with no pooling and it was fine. However, there was a post/video just last week of a Hellcat getting caught in a sudden down pour in Florida while driving on the expressway. He immediately was coasting to slow down and switch lanes to the slow lane and immediately lost control and crashed. According to the video he had slowed down to 40mph when it happened. No one can predict weather, not even the weatherman.

I ran them and when they were new it was like a normal tire. The problem was it only took about 3000 miles for them to go to hell. I almost crashed my car in the rain on a 55mph down to 40mph decel at about 3000 miles of wear.

From what you guys are saying, I don't think I'm going to do it. Maybe I will go for a better DR and avoid the rain.

Thatís the thing, the 555r will probably be the best Drag Radial if you happen to get caught in the rain.

But if I don't get caught in the rain, something like a ET Street SS would work better, right? I might just go that route.
