Default CMC Track Day Street Tire Shootout - Sept. 26th

The track day is just around the corner and this year we are doing something a little bit different. Since we have more street cars than race cars here in the club, we are having a street tire only shootout to allow the street cars to battle it out on the track for a cash prize!

Since this is our first time doing anything like this at our track day, we are starting off small. We are limiting this to a field of 16 cars. There will be a $25 buy in for each participant. Payment will have to be submitted via PayPal BEFORE the event. This is to make sure we have 16 racers committed. The $25 buy in is NON-REFUNDABLE. If you can't participate, you can sell your spot to someone else. The only exception is in the event of a rain out, we will refund the fee.

If you would like to participate, post up in this thread and I will list the first 16 names in this post. Once I have 16 participants, I will PM the PayPal information for the buy in fee.

    Rules:

    • 16 car field
    • Single elimination
    • FoMoCo Vehicles Only (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury) (any year allowed)
    • Must be a member of CMC
    • Street tires only - No Drag Radials or Slicks Allowed! Must be a TRUE street tire
    • No roll bars or roll cages allowed
    • No power adder limitations - run what ya brung!
    • Sportsman tree
    • Heads up
    • Quarter mile

These simple restrictions will level the playing field and make this an event of driver skill and consistency!

The prizes will be as follows:

    1st Place: $300
    2nd Place: $75
    3rd Place: $25

The gates open at Byron at 8:00 AM. We will have a drivers meeting and first round draw / call outs at 9 AM. Please show up on time or you will forfeit your first round race! Drivers meeting will be at the CMC tent that will be set up in the pit area. 1st round races will be drawn from a hat, or drivers will have an opportunity to call out their first race. The event will begin as soon as the track goes hot ~10 AM.

no drag radials? Really? I think that is a mistake.

I mean how many people on here run true street tires even on their street rims? Don't most everyone have Nittos or Toyos or something else on their 17, 18, or 19 inch rims? Maybe limit drag radials to 17" or greater.

Good point Tim. If we don't get enough interest to fill 16 spots, I may open up to include drag radials. Basically I wanted to keep it competitive. On street tires, nobody is going to be running faster than high 11s. I wanted to avoid having low 10 and high 9 second cars in a field with low 12 second cars. I'd like to keep the competition tight so everyone has a fair chance.

Bump. Would there be more interest if we expand the rules to allow 17" + drag radials?

I really wish I wasn't out of town for this day. I think this could be fun.

    Good ideas Matt.

Time to start tagging people in this thread, there *has* to be 16 people running street tires who want to participate. And besides, I think it would be good to have this event so that everyone who normally wouldn't run b/c they don't have slicks / big power builds, would actually run.

I can't be the only one stuck with weird sized rims and not enough cash to buy new ones before track day. (Anybody renting some wheels with slicks on them? )
