Default 98 V6 to Thunderbird SC Swap

    Hey everyone,

First off, was wondering if we could make this a sticky. I know many people are interested in this swap, and I am going to be undertaking it in a few weeks.

I am picking up a 94 T-Bird SC block from Todd (WastedDough) on the 9th of March, and will be providing pics of it then, as well as throughout the course of the cleaning and swap.

Pay attention sixers, this is gonna be badass when all is said and done!

Hey everyone, picked up the motor today courtesy of Todd (WastedDough). He was generous enough to throw in some extra parts, A++++ for him as a seller. Great guy to deal with.

Anyways, picked her up and here she is as of 3-19-08

The next few months will be a cleaning job and bringing it to a machine shop to let them look it over. Keep ya posted!

    UPDATE 6/19/08:

So I disassembled the motor yesterday.

Well...sort of. I had the cam, timing chain, lifters, etc all removed and then I had a few head bolts left and they were rounded. I rounded two of them and one was already rounded. SO we spent about an hour carefully grinding/drilling the one to get the left side head off. We finally broke it loose with an air hammer once most of its surface was gone. This is the plan for the other two as well, and that'll be happening on Monday.

After the heads are off the engine is going on the stand to get the oil pan/pistons/rings and all that removed and then its going to PER-Racing to get inspected/cleaned.

Good news is everything looks good so far. No unusual cam wear and no head gasket damage from what I can tell. The pistons are a little black but the cylinders have no scoring. We'll find out if there's a blown ring soon enough.

    Till next time,
